CEEBA Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee on Experimentation and Animal Welfare (CEEBA) of the UVa is the Body in Charge of Animal Welfare (OEBA) in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 53/2013, of February 1, establishing the basic rules applicable to the protection of animals used in experimentation and other scientific purposes, including teaching.

Within its scope of competence, the CEEBA is responsible for the following functions:

  1. Advise animal care staff on animal welfare issues.
  2. Advise personnel on the application of replacement, reduction and refinement requirements and keep them informed of technical and scientific advances in the application of this requirement.
  3. Establish and review internal operational processes with respect to the control, communication and monitoring of information related to animal welfare.
  4. Advise on rehousing, adoption or socialization schemes.
  5. Evaluation and monitoring of research or teaching projects involving the use of animals.

The CEEBA of the UVa is also an Authorized Body by the Competent Authority for the evaluation of projects in whose procedures animals are used.

Once this documentation has been registered, CEEBA may issue a report of receipt of the documentation, indicating that it is in the process of evaluation, so that you can provide it in calls for project funding, and a Project Code will be assigned.

The response possibilities after the evaluation are:

3.- EVALUATION PENDING ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION OR MODIFICATIONS

Once the evaluation of the project by the CEEBA is available, the PI must submit at any of the registration offices of the JCyL or in the places and in the manner described in art. 16.4 and final provision seven of Law 39/2015 of the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations:

    • Documents 1 to 5, signed.
    • Report of the Ethics Committee of the Center / Authorized Body.
  • Return registered hard copy to the Uva CEEBA, including copy of all registered documents.
  • Use the Project Code in all animal requests.
  • If the project is qualified as "with retrospective evaluation", it will collect the necessary data throughout its execution, and will provide CEEBA with the required information.
  • Notify SIBA of the authorization of the project and the start and end dates of the experiment.
