I studied law at the University of San Buenaventura, Medellín Campus, in Colombia. I then completed my master's degree in Human Rights, Interculturality and Development at the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville. I completed my PhD in the same field in 2014. Since obtaining my PhD, I have continued my research uninterrupted, enriched by postdoctoral stays at internationally renowned institutions. Among these, my participation as a visiting researcher at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, stands out, as does my experience as a postdoctoral fellow in the prestigious Postgraduate Programme in Sustainable Development and Social Inequalities in the Andean Region, promoted by the Freie Universität Berlin and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, with the support of the German government through the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD, 2020).
My experience transcends academic spaces and has extended into strategic consulting scenarios with multilateral organisations. I have been an international consultant for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and a contributor to Global Information Society Watch, an initiative promoted by the Association for Progressive Communications, an organisation with category 1 consultative status at the UN. The combination of teaching, research, international outreach, and collaboration with leading organisations has allowed me to consolidate a profile committed to the generation of specialised knowledge in human rights, oriented towards social transformation. Further information about my profile can be found here:https://yennesitpalacios.com/
My research, entitled ‘Transitional justice and human rights: perspectives for peacebuilding in contexts of armed conflict,’ focuses on the Colombian armed conflict and explores not only the cases heard by the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), but also the changes in the armed conflict following the peace agreements between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – Ejército del Pueblo FARC-EP, focusing on the post-agreement period in the reports of the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition – SIVJRNR and on the various crimes constituting modern forms of slavery, as an analytical category, in the context and because of the Colombian armed conflict.
My vision is to consolidate a highly specialised professional profile in the promotion and guarantee of human rights, with a firm commitment to social transformation through knowledge and action. My approach focuses on generating specialised knowledge that serves as a basis for the formulation of effective public policies and the implementation of concrete actions, without borders. Ultimately, my vision is to actively contribute to the construction of more just and equitable societies by consolidating a professional profile that combines specialised knowledge, international experience and a deep ethical commitment to the defence of human rights in all their dimensions.
